I am the employer and I am the employee. I’ve learnt a lot of things but I still need to learn more cause no matter how much you know there is always something new to learn. I’m 27 years old and though many say that I’ve come a long way I don’t think it’s enough. I haven’t even started. For me the media is an alley and once you go through it, you’re hooked. You become ‘mediaholic’. The station is my second home and for me there’s no difference between work and hobby because my hobby is in fact my work. I love music, especially Italian music, my idol being Fiorello – One great showman whom I was lucky to meet just recently. The thing I hate most is Fighting and Small Talk. I have no time for Lazy people either. Don’t like talking about myself and most of all I look for sincerity in others. I try to grab whatever challenge comes my way even though sometimes I have to sacrifice other things but I have no regrets as long as I move forward. I have no regrets where Calypso is concerned and I really must thank all the team there and the listeners who all contributed to Calypso’s success. Most of all I would like to thank my family who I tend to neglect sometimes and last but definitely, last but not least my fiancée who without her support I won’t be where I am today.

    Charles Polidano

Charles is a man with a passion for construction, be it machinery, or even property negotiating... Amongst his hobbies he loves to collect miniatures of construction equipment and of other engines and machineries.. He not only enjoys drinking wine, and beer, but also is intrigued by the winery and brewing of the two leisure drinks. His energy to always be proactive and engage in new ventures is probably quite rare, and not a lot of people would be willing to take the risk he does, which one have to admire.

    Freddie Cacciattolo

Alfred Cacciattolo, commonly known as “Freddie tal-Hamrun Kiosk” was born on the 2nd of March 1953, has 5 children and married to his loving wife Anna. Alfred runs his business which is one of the most successful catering outlets and started his radio business when Calypso was a community radio in October 2005 from the studios in Hamrun. He continued as one of the directors when Calypso changed to a nationwide frequency on 1018. Freddie enjoys watching a good movie at the cinema, eating out and also like to relax infront of the telly watching a DVD when he is off from work. Although it’s rather unusual for him to have a day off! Freddie takes pride in being on the directors of a station which started as a community and is now one of Malta’s leading nationwide stations. Alfred looks forward for new challenges such as forthcoming events, like the concert by Enzo Ghinazzi, known as Pupo which is one of the radio’s ambitious events. Freddie is always on the go and this separates him from lazy persons with no ambitions or aims. He’s a down to earth person and this makes him as a point of reference to all the presenters at Calypso.

My journey began when in 2005 I got my University Degree in Bachelor of Commerce Honors in Management and to my greatest delight I started working with Calypso in July of that same year.
First I worked in sales and administration of the station but my interests drove me further to editing adverts, voiceovers, singing at retro nights. Later I started my own program every Tuesday night! In July 2006 I left to London studying and working contemporarily for 7 months, and the experience was fantastic! Now I have returned to Malta and my beloved Calypso presenting my weekly show!

Calling it a matured marriage, I’ve been with Joe for 25 years, and Lara is the outcome of how mature we’ve become! My career started in 1978 as a program presenter I liked it so much I never stopped, and today I’m still doing what I started almost 30 years ago.  Well actually there were some variations obviously, I’ve had opportunities to produce, announce and even work in the administration part of the entertainment world. Also I attended courses organized by BBC, Thompson Foundation (Presentation) and Studer (Technical). Acquired a good social and organizational skills from different experiences. I’ve been working for calypso radio since day 1, and am helping out in the production and PR  of the TV series GIZELLE.  Am also producing and presenting the daily  breakfast show on a local TV station. I love Music, Culture & Nature I cannot hide the fact that I love the sense of freedom I get from sailing and motorcycling – even in other countries!!  After this, if & when I have more free time, and more money :) I love traveling and visiting places of interest, and enjoy their local good food. Well also to many of you I’m the “bring you luck” girl, and I’m so associated with those 5 numbers… well good luck to you all… every week…

    Anna Bonett

Definitely a Passion for travel with her favorite destination being the UK, especially the highlands of Scotland. She loves Chinese food, pasta and pizza and although she doesn't have much time for hobbies, she still loves walking and reading. As regards to music... definitely Westlife and almost all the other BOY bands! Anna Bonett is our head of news at Calypso and we love her to bits!

    Carol Cacciatolo

Born on the 20th of February in 1978 Carol adores her two young children, Shanel and Kyle together with her family who support her all the way! Carol loves her music, especially Roxette who she describes as her favourite. She enjoys going out especially going to the movies! The thing she enjoys doing most is playing good music on Calypso. Carol can be a bit lazy… she never wakes up before 8am… she just hates waking up early in the morning. She concluded by saying that it was Frank’s encouragement that convinced her to present a music show on radio for the very first time and she is happy with the audience she has gained so far.

    Catherine Mifsud

Catherine Mifsud joined Calypso in 2004. She hosts Tuesday’s and Thursday’s breakfast shows, joins Mark Mizzi for ‘Saturday Sportsline’, sets the musical atmosphere for ‘Saturday Night Live’ and entertains our listeners during their ‘Sunday Drive’. Catherine is dedicated to her hospital administration work but she still manages to pursue her passion for radio and TV.   Catherine’s love affair with the media started back in 1996 with the TV sports program ‘Kick Off’ which she still hosts to date. Throughout her television career Catherine worked on various projects including programmes like ‘Kurrenti’ ‘Tista Tkun Int’ ‘Showtime’ ‘Melita Sports Champions League’ and ‘Kick Off World Cup Special’ [Melita Sports] which won the ‘Best Sports Program Award’ in 2006. For many years Catherine has been involved in activities to raise funds for local charities and for ten years she was in charge of the media relations for the National Solidarity Through Sports Campaign. She enjoys traveling and reading a lot but her greatest passion is music with Italian artistes topping her list of favorites.

    Charles Fenech

Charles Fenech, born on the 24th of February 1959 simply adores good music of the 70’s and the 80’s! His name is very popular with those who use to attend the Vibes Discotheque where he was the only DJ for over 15 years. His 70s & 80s parties are still as popular as ever, at the Tattingers Night Club, addressing over 1,300 people each time! During the 80’s he also hosted various mid morning shows, very popular with factory workers. The most popular show on radio was his Friday night show “Naghzel Jien.” Charles Fenech, a name synonymous on switch B on Cable Radio, enjoys cooking and obviously eating! His favourite dish is any type of pasta, as long as it’s delicious and pizza! Charles has been part of the presenting team on Calypso since it was broadcasting on a community frequency from Hamrun and at that same time it was very hard for Charles to make a decision, after 25 years on nationwide radio and getting transferred to community radio… Today he thinks different and is very pleased with the success Calypso Radio achieved so far!

    Charles Vella

Waaahh!! Yep, that photo on the left is me and the people who know me call me Charles. I’m 23 but age is just a number… although lets be modest, I’m still young! I have no spare time as I’m always active and doing things, however one of the things I enjoy doing most is discovering more of what TV channels are available on satellite! There are thousands… I just wish I had time to see what they all offer! Mhmm you think it’s boring? I’ll let you be the judge of that! So, here’s something about my radio life. It started as a hobby back when I was 17 and it was May 2006 when I joined the team at Calypso. Apart from the many administration things I handle, like taking care of the sales… mhmm yeah, the boring stuff… writing, filing, sending e-mails… all the stress stuff! Well, it’s part of the job and someone’s gotta do it! Although that’s not just it, I also have the creative part in my hands and that is the thing I give all my devotion to. Ahh yes! Production! Creating dynamic, enjoyable, professional and effective adverts is the obsession that’s been dominating me for quite a long time. On the whole, joining Calypso was the best… well, let’s not exaggerate… but truly it’s the second best thing that ever happened to me, 1st being my other half. I hate people with the attitude of “anything goes” and on the other hand I hate people who smile in your face and when turning sideways well… you know! Ever been a victim or the imposer?!! Oh well… I think I’ve said enough! ...in the meantime enjoy Calypso!!

Some of my duties at Calypso are taking care of the technical things, setting up our on location broadcast unit and other things! I`m the eldest of a family of 5 who live in Mgarr, Malta… I enjoy playing and watching a good football game, swimming and traveling. The sounds of the 80`s and the 90`s hits are my favorite!

Born on the 23rd Feb 1961, been working in the music industry for the last 28 years. He started off with a mobile disco, setting up discos for different occasions in all places around Malta including weddings, private parties, parties at hotels and nightclubs. Chris has been an integral part of our team here at Calypso, helping out all the others and looking for everyone’s needs.   He claims that he loves being part of the team, but I bet everyone loves having him around more. Amongst other things Chris is thrilled by watching boat races (especially powerboat races), and is into cars… in all aspects!!  Apart from boats and cars, Chris loves food especially pizza and pasta…and obviously they’re not so tasty without wine! Currently he hosts Nightshift, night show aired twice a week: Friday & Sunday night from midnight till dawn.

    Eileen Montesin

Eileen has been one of the first to join the team at Calypso, back when the station was still broadcasting on a community scale. As everyone might know Eileen is a very busy person although she says that she creates time for everything… radio, TV & spending good quality time with her family. She’s been presenting shows on TV for 27 years and she also spoke about the golden days on Xandir Malta when Eileen started off as a radio announcer back in 1979. Talking about her most embarrassing moments she described once particular stage show… she had just bought a pair of new shoes and she fell just before getting on stage! Like everyone else Eileen has her moods too… Want to know what her mood is today? Just listen to her daily show on Calypso and you’ll know just that!! One last thing… we love her coffee!!

    Enzo Guzman

Enzo, born on the 9th of August 1947 describes his family, friends and listeners as his most precious treasures. He doesn’t hate any one, he said that he loves everyone! He just cannot stand certain individuals who don’t wish to learn… or be corrected! He believes that only those who really REALLY care do take the trouble to correct those who ERR!! He appreciates to be corrected so he may continue to learn. Enzo say’s he’s an Internet addict and of course a great follower of Maltese football! He enjoys singing more than any other activity and he thanks God every single day for his singing talent. He started his singing career back in 1960 and yes… he’s still doing very well! When he was asked to say something about his media career he said that it’s impossible to even try to say anything about almost 50 years of singing, and 39 years of broadcasting! Enzo took part in numerous festivals, both in Malta and abroad. He also presented many radio and TV programmes on various stations. He concluded by trying to describe how happy he is with the team here at Calypso… and described the whole team as SUPER SUPER TEAM!!!

    Gertrude Borg Marks

Born on the 29th of November 19.… oh what the heck I’m still young, 1973 so to save you time counting; I’m 33 years old.  I believe that life should be lived to the full, and I feel that somehow I am doing that.  I’m married to Leo; he gives me all the strength I need when I lack it, Kira 5 and Dean 3; are the reason I call myself a happy person; drama is what relaxes me most, I love being someone else, it relaxes the Gertrude in me... and movies are my thrill. Then there’s work… I happen to be one of the few, lucky people who can say that YES I ENJOY WHAT I DO, I love my job, and I wouldn’t want to change it in anyway.  That’s thanks to my bosses, my colleagues and the listeners… OK maybe my input has something to do with it too. Being the Sagittarius I am, I can’t resist being spontaneous and considerate.  My everyday aim is to make at least one person happier, and I hate gossip.

    John Mallia

John is 55 years young, that is how his family, friends and his now staunch Calypso listeners consider him to be: young at heart! Whilst going through his teens in the liberal 60's, John met his first love at a very tender age, Music, when he embarked on his entertainment career behind the mike which sadly had to be later put aside due to work and family commitments.  No sooner however was he to meet his true love who topped his charts and undisputedly held his top of the pops for the next 35 years, Jayne. The 60's and 70's have given John the musical style he is so fond of with his all time favourite solo artist being Paul Anka, whilst, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, CCR and Led Zeppelin being the groups of his preference. John's passion rekindled when Calypso Radio hit the air waves as a community channel. It was his long time friend Enzo Guzman who introduced him to this community and today, listeners can enjoy John's retro shows thanks to the four programmes he delivers on Malta's number one national transmitting station, that's Calypso 101.8FM.

Besides playing records as a DJ he organizes and hosts several night life shows such as dinner dances, country nights and other entertainment activities.
